Sisterly Love

My sister Jennie is my only sibling. We are very close in age, only a little bit less than two years apart. The closeness in age helped us to be so close growing up. Or maybe it was the fact that I shared a room with her almost the whole time she live at home. Lots of late nights talking her ear off. Anyways, she is my best friend.

This weekend my sister moved into my parent's rental house, the place I stay at. She currently is waiting on getting residency in Canada. She just got married earlier this month. Her husband Mike is working on building a house on their new piece of land in Lake Country, B.C. She decided instead of moving straight up there after getting married, it would be better to stay down here and make some money to send up their new place. Hence is why she is renting out a room at my place instead of keeping her apartment.

I am glad that I will get to spend a lot of time with her these next few month before she moves up to Canada. I know she says it's only like 7 hours away, but it still isn't the same as being able to have multiple movie nights, trips to whole foods, and gym trips a month. Plus, did I mention that she is an awesome cook!

Here's to lots of good food and sister sister time these next few months!!

Oh the urge to be lazy how I hate thee!

Why is there always this urge to be lazy on a weekly basis? Then after the urge, there is always this inner debate where you ask your self questions like this:
“How many times have I gone to the gym this week?”

“Have I really ate that much junk food this week already?”

“I am still young… shouldn’t I enjoy the chance to sleep in and be lazy while I still can?”

At least if you aren’t thinking these questions on a daily basis, I sure am. I really have been trying to stay active and eat healthy these last couple of years. I would say the eating healthy part isn’t too hard. The key is to not have any junk food in your house. That way there is no temptations. Oh wait, except the twenty fast food places you pass on the way home from work. That is the hardest part of eating healthy for me. I love french fries, have since I was a little girl! Staying active aka going to the gym is the hardest battle for me. I love being at the gym once I am there, it is just getting me there is the hard part. Most weeks I manage to make an appearance to the gym 3 to 4 times. Ok, well maybe not the gym, but if I am not there I will go running with my dog.
However, the week before I went to Cabo I didn’t do anything, but be lazy. Yeah, I know, why the heck would you be lazy the week before going to a bikini sporting place like Cabo? You think I would have been hitting the gym double time that week. Heh, what ya going to do? I still think I didn’t look too shabby. There always is room for improvement.
Anyways, the whole point of this blog is that I need to start working out again since I am officially done with my vacation AND summer is only a few months away. It is amazing how fast you loose the work you achieved at the gym. I need to make sure I sport that bikini as much as I can before the next summer where I will have my nose in a book about teeth all the time! :-D

Quest to Hygiene School

I know I have already mentioned dental hygiene thousands of times in my front page, but I would have to say it is the biggest thing going on in my life right now. That is why it is going to be the first thing I write about in my blog. :-D

I first started thinking about dental hygiene way back in High school. I was doing the running start program and trying to decide what I wanted to do for a future career. I loved science, but knew I never would want to do research is some lab. My Aunt is a Dental Hygienist and recommended it. I started the prerequisites, but got intimidated towards the end at the hard classes and the pressure to get high grades in them. So instead of continuing, I took some time off and went to work full-time. It didn’t take too long of working at United Rentals before I decided I wanted to go back to school.

Since I was still too intimidated to try for hygiene, I decided to go back to school for Dental Assisting. I found out through an oral surgeon assistant that dental assistants actually make pretty decent money, unlike what I had heard previously. Fall of 2006, I enrolled into the Dental Assisting program at Renton Technical College. It was hard and challenging, but it was so great to feel like I was planning my future career. In summer of 2007 I graduated from the program with my CDA.

I started working at my first office in Renton and learned quickly that it was a good field for me. However, I learned quickly that being a dental assistant was not what I wanted. I didn’t like the pay and wanted to have more respect. I knew that after being in the field for awhile I could be successful and should go back to school for hygiene.

It was a hard step to take. I had to work full time to support myself and apartment and go to school. It took one year to finish up the rest of my prerequisites and I was able to apply to six schools. My overall science GPA is a 3.95 which makes me pretty competitive with my dental experience. I recently have done 3 interviews and more testing for all the schools I applied to. (Which is an accomplishment all in itself)I still have one more interview at Seattle Central on the 8th, then on April 16th I should know what school I got into and hopefully I will get to go to my #1 choice LWTC.

I can’t wait to start my journey through hygiene school. I know it will be a long tuff road, but it will be so worth it to know that I did not let fear get in the way of my overall dream. I am so excited to see what the future holds for me. Just goes to show you can’t let fear hold you back or I never would have even tried to go back to hygiene school.
